Travel to Sárospatak:
Arrival by plane: You will arrive either to Ferihegy 1 airport (most budget airlines) or Ferihegy 2 (A or B terminal all overseas flights, and main European airlines).
WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU TAKE THE AIRPORT MINIBUS (AIRPORTSHUTTLE) TO THE KELETI TRAIN STATION.
Please find the Airport Minibus service desk at any of the airport terminals, or your can find more information, book your ticket online: www.airportshuttle.hu
You will need to tell them that you would like to take the minibus to the Keleti Train Station. You will need to wait for a few minutes, and they will tell you which miniubus is going to Keleti. You can pay by credit card, Hungarian Forints or Euros. Cost: 2990 HUF or 15 Euros one way, or 4990 HUF or 22 Euros for both ways. Feel free to buy your return ticket as well, and latest 24 hours before your your back flight you can confirm the pickup (tel: 00 36 1 2968555). The minibus trip to Keleti will take about 30 - 40 min.
((You can also take public transport to Keleti train station, which is cheaper, but this is LONG and COMPLICATED. Here is the description for you, in case you want more adventure than the minibus :) To go to East (Keleti) Train Station by public bus: You will need to exchange some money into HUF at the airport or withdraw HUF from an airport ATM. Find the bus stop outside the airport, and when it arrives buy a ticket from the driver (400 HUF - About 1.5 euro) VALIDATE YOUR TICKET ON THE BUS. Take the bus to the last stop (Köbánya-Kispest). Get off bus and go up the stairs to the Metro. At the ticket window buy two tickets for 580 HUF (about 2 euro or $2.50). MAKE SURE YOU VALIDATE YOUR TICKET before you go down to the metro platform. Go down stairs and get on the metro train on the right track. This will be the #3 Blue line. Take the metro to the Deak Ferenc Tér stop where you will switch to the #2 Red line going towards Örs Vezer Tér (not toward Déli PU). Make sure you validate a new ticket when you get off the blue line to make the trasfer. Take the #2 Red line to Keleti PU (East Train Station)).

If you arrive at Ferihegy "1" airport, you can go according to the first description: airportshuttle or bus and 2 metros, OR you can take the train into the city, which leaves from the station across the street in front of the airport. This is how you find the train: as you come out of the airport, walk towards the road where the cars are going. Cross the road, and wait at the platform which is closer to the airport. Trains come in every 10 - 15 min. If you would like to know the exact scedule, you can go to www.elvira.hu and type in: Ferihegy (dep. station) and Budapest-Nyugati pu (arr.station). You can buy the ticket on the train platform - you should have about 400 HUF (about 1.5 euros). When you get to Nyugati (Western station), buy 2 metro tickets from the newspaper stands. You will need to take the metro to Keleti (Eastern) railway station. The easiest if you take the metro: the blue line to Deák Tér (towards Kőbánya Kispest) and then change to the red line to Keleti PU (in the direction of Örs Vezér Tér). Make sure you validate a new ticket when you get off the blue line to make the transfer!
Arrival to another Train Station than Keleti: There are three train stations. If you arrive to the West Train Station (Nyugati) you will need to take the metro to Keleti (Eastern) railway station. Buy 2 tickets from the newspaper stands. The easiest if you take the metro: the blue line to Deák Tér (towards Kőbánya Kispest) and then change to the red line to Keleti PU (in the direction of Örs Vezér Tér). Make sure you validate a new ticket when you get off the blue line to make the transfer!
If you arrive to the South Train Station (Déli) then take the red metro line to East Train Station (Keleti), these 2 railway stations are on the same metro line. You will need 1 ticket.
By Car: You will need to by a Matica (sticker) to travel on most 4 lane highways. You can do this at the first stop across the border or in most gas stations in Austria close to the Hungarian border. When you arrive to Sárospatak, follow the map link below to: Rakoczi str. 1, the main building of the Reformed Collegium and Theological Seminary

YOU ARE AT KELETI (East) Train Station: Your ticket to Sarospatak will cost around $30 or $18 euro. They will accept credit cards. Those trains with [R] - these are the InterCity (IC) trains require also buying a ticket for a seat. The InterCity trains are comfortable, airconditioned and second class is fine.
Next to the train tracks No. 9, there is a travel agency: Wasteels, where you can buy in-land as well as international tickets and they speak English!
Q: Where do I find the TRAIN SCHEDULE on the internet?
A: www.elvira.hu - for details please visit this website, but below we list the possible trains too:
To be updated soon......
Trains leaving on the 26th and 27th July, 2009.
BUDAPEST-SÁROSPATAK
Where you see IC - you will need a seat reservation!! At the ticket office, you will need to tell them which train you would like to take, what time, so they give you the seat reservation to the train which you tell them. You will need to change trains at either Szerencs (easier because it is a small station) or Miskolc (changing train is on the next platform, but do ask the conductor!). On the IC trains there is air conditioning while the second train will not be so nice, and no air conditioning.
Where you see Fast train, it is a direct train, but not as nice quality as Inter City trains, there isn't air conditioning. On the central board for destinations and train tracks, your train might say: Sátoraljaújhely as final destination. This is ok, Sarospatak is a stop before the final city Sátoraljaújhely.
